First off, apologies for the corny blog title. I just had to do it.
Some of you already know a little about my current project already, so this might be redundant!
For a while now, I’ve been working on this little number. I think I started on it during Teabreeze: Part One, but when I’m co-writing I like to keep those books as top priority. This one is my first solo effort. I am so excited and SO nervous! You never realize how helpful that instant feedback from a co-author is until you don’t have it!
Thank the good indie lord for beta readers, amiright?!
So, what is it? Well, it’s a blend of paranormal, dystopian, and a dash of mystery. Of course there’s sexy stuff, too, because c’mon… it’s fun. This one is all from the perspective of the strong, if a little jaded, female lead Callie. I actually started a dual POV version and while it was fun, I decided that this story needs to be told through her perspective alone. It just felt better that way, and I hope my readers agree when it’s all said and done!
Anywho, I’ve got a Goodreads page started for this baby in case you’d like to add to your “to read” list, and I hope to have some teasers and *possibly* a pre-order link ready for you all very soon, so stay tuned!
Here’s a first look at the blurb.
The war has ended, but the bad blood remains.
Long ago, the vampires took control. Now, they run the cities and make the rules with little regard for the race they slaughtered to get there. With no rights and fewer options, some humans serve themselves up to the elite undead in exchange for protection. The rest take their chances with the ferals outside the city walls. It’s miserable, but misery can be lucrative if you’re clever enough.
Callie Flynn commands a small team at DWM – a strictly-human mercenary group in the city outskirts. They take contracts; they eliminate beasties; they get paid. It’s a better life than most free humans get. But when a scout disappears on a mission she ordered, she realizes her shoot-from-the-hip attitude may have cost her more than a promotion.
Seeking answers in the disappearance, she breaks procedure and makes contact with a forbidden source: the vampire Judge of the city. Augustin is as frightening as he is fascinating, but he is also pragmatic. With her back against a wall, Callie makes an agreement that could either set things right or set everything ablaze.
The line between friend and foe corrodes the further she digs, forcing her to question her judgment and loyalties at every turn. At the bottom of it all, she uncovers a truth more twisted and far-reaching than anything she could’ve ever expected.
A truth that could cost her the thing she values most – her humanity.
That reminds me… I should probably update my stuff with a trigger warning. Nothing too depraved, but in this day and age you can’t be too careful, can you?
As always, thanks for joining me on my journey through this crazy indie book world! Later, friends!
